I’ve loved flowers ever since I was a little girl, when I’d pick bunches from my Mum’s garden and sell them in little jars, packed into my doll’s pram, to all my neighbours. After an early career in PR and copywriting, I was a milliner for many years, with a shop in South Yarra named after my grandmothers, Betty Ward and Iris Wylie. Eventually, I felt a calling and moved to the Dandenong Ranges, where, inspired by the lush landscape and gardens, I returned to my first love; the arrangement of natural creation in fresh florals. I opened a cute little flower shop in Upwey, and ran it for 6 years until my son started school and I now work from a home studio and teach floristry in TAFEs. In my Upwey garden, I love growing as many flowers as possible for my online orders, and I also grow natives down at my bush block by 90 Mile Beach. All my bouquets are original and one-off, unstructured and whimsical, and when not hand-picked, are sourced from hills growers, with the occasional exception for special orders. I see flowers as art; an expression of emotion when words are not enough. Whether for love, for triumph or for sorrow, flowers say it all.
